Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Requirements
How to become a pharmacy technician in Massachusetts
Pharmacy Technician Trainee:
- 16 years of age or older
- High school diploma, GED or currently enrolled in high school
- No drug related felony conviction
- Register with the Board: fill out application and pay registration fee
- Renew registration biennially
- Pharmacy technician trainees are limited to no more than 1,000 hours of employment. Trainess must register for either Pharmacy Technician or Certified Pharmacy Technician to continue employment.
Pharmacy Technician:
- 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma, GED or currently enrolled in high school
- No drug related felony conviction
- Register with the Board: fill out application and pay registration fee
- Renew registration biennially
- Training Requirements, ONE of the following:
- Successful completion of a Board-approved pharmacy technician training program by one of the following:
- A pharmacy technician training program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists -OR-
- A pharmacy technician training program provided by a branch of the United States Armed Services or Public Health Service -OR-
- A Board-approved pharmacy technician training program
-OR-
- Successfully completed a minimum of 500 hours of employment as a pharmacy technician trainee
- Successful completion of a Board-approved pharmacy technician training program by one of the following:
- Passing score on ONE of the following:
- A Board-approved pharmacy technician assessment examination administered by the employer or the employerÂ’s agent -OR-
- PTCB or NHA exam
Certified Pharmacy Technician
- PTCB or NHA certification
- Register with the Board: fill out application and pay registration fee
- Renew registration biennially
